NOTE 1: European Standard for oxygen connection - from August 2008

The European standard came into force in August 2008 specifying that the connection to a cylinder containing any gas with an oxygen percentage greater than 22% should be a different thread (M26x2) than the BSP thread standard on air cylinders.

Consequently, from July 2008, we modified the connection on the oxygen cylinder valve (and the APD oxygen first stage) of the Inspiration, Evolution and Evolution+ (now Inspiration models: xpd, evo & evp) rebreathers to the new M26x2 thread as our standard production spec.

In order to overcome possible difficulties with compatibility on existing dive kit and issues with filling cylinders, we have introduced the two adaptors (AP8N and AP8R) allowing the conversion of the (pre-July 2008) 5/8" BSP thread to the new M26x2 thread and vice versa.

Both adaptors are available for purchase on this site.

NOTE 2: Progessive-Opening Oxygen Rebreather Valves - from October 2019

As of October 2019 all AP Oxygen Rebreather Valves are fitted with a needle-valve seat which offers progressive-opening of the valve.

When pressurising the oxygen system, for the first half turn or so it appears that nothing is happening. You should continue to open the valve a fraction at a time until the HP gauge needle just starts to move, if necessary, closing the valve slightly if the pressurisation rate is too fast, then stop and wait until it reaches full pressurisation.

NOTE: ALWAYS PRESSURISE HP OXYGEN SYSTEMS EXTREMELY SLOWLY - TAKING BETWEEN 1-2 MINUTES TO REACH FULL PRESSURE.

The new AP Oxygen Valves are an advance in safety designed to reduce the risk of sudden pressurisation and the generation of adiabatic heat which could ignite an oxygen fire in the first stage if contamination is present. They should be used in conjunction with the new AP Restricted Oxygen HP Hoses, also launched in October 2019.

The new needle-valve seat is made from a much harder material than previously and it is also high temperature resistant which makes it invulnerable to deformation in hot locations or if the diver routinely over-tightens the valve.
